Local News: Hospitals react to rapid rise in COVID-19 cases (7/29/21)

At least one hospital in Northwest Arkansas is making changes in light of the increasing number of COVID-19 infections in the region and across the state, while another is continuing on the same path chosen last April.
In a news release issued last week, Birch Wright, the chief operating officer and administrator for Fayetteville-based Washington Regional Medical System, said the healthcare system would be moving to Phase 2 of its COVID-19 Surge Plan.
This allows us to temporarily reassign some of our hospital and clinic team members to assist in areas of most critical need in the hospital, Wright said. It also allows us to move to a team-based nursing approach where primary nurses have support from secondary nurses for non-specialized tasks. These actions will allow us to expand our capacity, making it possible for us to care for an increased number of COVID and non-COVID patients. ....

Boston Mountain Rural Health Center holds grand opening
Boston Mountain Rural Health Center celebrated its new Mountain Home medical clinic opening Thursday with a ribbon-cutting that featured hot dogs and music from KTLO.
The clinic with be run by Dustin Bentley, a family nurse practitioner who formerly worked for 12 years in Baxter Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Room. He is joined by Ashton Jenkins, a fellow nurse from Baxter Regional and Julie Small, an X-ray and lab specialist that also worked in the emergency room.
“I just know he’s going to blow up with his patients,” Small said. “He’s just smart, and he’s got a good personality. He’s good at what he does.” ....

Marion County drive-thru vaccine clinic set for May 14

Boston Mountain Rural Health Center will hold a drive-thru vaccine clinic for the Marion County area tomorrow.
The event will be held May 14 at the Yellville City Park from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. or while supplies last.
Vaccines will be available for everyone ages 18 and up. Participants will need to provide a photo ID during check in, but will not need to provide insurance information or proof of citzienship or legal status.
Yellville City park is located along Highway 14 near Crooked Creek.
