Have you ever stopped to wonder what is the meaning of Cross Timbers ?
Early European settlers called this part of Texas Cross Timbers because Post Oak forests used to cross strips of the Blackland Prairie. The Blackland Prairie is part of the Great Plains. Only small parts of the Great Plains still exist, having become farmlands and expanding development.
Fortunately, Stephenville has one of these small pieces, and it is wearing its spring beauty now. Located along the Bosque River Trail between Long Street and Washington Street, a prairie restoration is being established. By visiting, it is possible to get a glimpse of what used to cover 11.5 million acres of tall grass prairie where bison traveled through. ....

Moumin Quazi, two-time president of the Stephenville Rotary Club, made a presentation to the Stephenville City Council at its regular meeting on Tuesday about its last few years’ donations totaling $9,000 to the city, for the Collins Street Trailhead of the Bosque River Trail.

Dear Mayor and Councilors:
For some historical context, in the fall of 2018 the City began creating a master plan for an inclusive space the brought together our Bosque River Trail, beautiful live oaks, and one of the most scenic parts of the City to create an escape. The preliminary plan created an environment for all, from pollinator and sensory gardens to a play scape fully inclusive to people of all abilities. Erath County voters let their voices be heard on Saturday, defeating all five propositions on the city of Stephenville ballot and electing new school board members for Stephenville and Dublin ISDs.
According to information from the Erath County Elections Office, of the 18,409 eligible voters, 2,335 total ballots were cast, for a voter turnout of 12.68%.
Results from the election are unofficial until they are canvassed by the appropriate governing board in the upcoming weeks.

On election day, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. In Erath County, voters can vote at any of the following locations, regardless of where they reside in Erath County: Erath County Courthouse, 100 W. Washington St., Stephenville; or Dublin County Annex, 219 S. Grafton St., Dublin.
City of Stephenville voters will decide on five proposed bond issues as well as two school board positions.
While four positions are up for election on the Stephenville City Council, each place has had one candidate declare so an election will not be held. Those declaring for the positions include incumbents, Ricky Thurman in Place 5 and Gerald Cook in Place 7; and newcomers LeAnn Durfey in Place 1 and Daron Trussell in Place 3. ....
