A virtual public involvement meeting is taking place through May 20 to provide people with a chance to comment about the project that will put a paved, multi-use recreational trail through the heart of Greenfield. The first phase of the project, scheduled to be constructed in summer 2022, will connect to the Oak Leaf Trail at West Cold Spring Road and stretch east 3 miles to 60th Street. The input session is being held virtually due to the pandemic, said Greenfield City Engineer Jeff Katz. He said project organizers will take feedback into consideration and respond to questions. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) on Tuesday by enacting a law that allows people with mental health concerns to opt in to wellness checks, one of dozens of bills during the General Assembly’s just-concluded 90-day session. The Thomas Bloom Raskin Act expands access to the state’s 211 system and allows people in mental distress to request periodic phone calls from a team staffing a crisis hotline. Montgomery Parks to Expand Powerline Trail from Germantown to Bethesda Montgomery Parks will expand the Powerline Trail to connect South Germantown Recreational Park and Cabin John Regional Park. The park service has received $10 million in funding from the state of Maryland to make renovations to the Powerline Trail. The path currently is six miles of natural terrain that connects South Germantown Recreational Park to Muddy Branch Stream Valley Park. Once construction begins in 2022, the trails will stretch 13 miles and be made up of both natural and paved trails. A surfaced trail will eventually run from Muddy Branch Trailhead to Cabin John Regional Park. ....
