Dela Rosa pushes death penalty measure anew following Tarlac double murder

Dela Rosa, a former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, made the call as he condemned the action of Police Senior Master Sgt. Jonel Nuezca who shot to death his neighbor Sonya Gregorio and her son Frank during a heated argument.
The senator lamented the measure is still languishing at the referred committee up until today.
“Ayaw nila ng death penalty eh! ‘Yung ginawa ng pulis na (What that cop did was) cold-blooded killing (and is considered) double murder and a heinous crime na dapat ang parusa ay (that could have been punishable by) death penalty,” Dela Rosa said. ....

Killer cop can't invoke insanity — Palace – Manila Bulletin

Police Senior Master Sgt. Joenel Nuezca, the cop who killed two persons in Tarlac, may not be able to use insanity as defense in his case since he probably knew it was wrong to use his service pistol for murder, Malacañang said Tuesday.
According to presidential spokesman Harry Roque, insanity plea could only be effectively invoked when a defendant is incapable of understanding what he is doing or determining right from wrong.

“Pero pagdating naman dito, siya ay isang pulis. Siya isang sumusweldong pulis na nakita naman natin na ang kanilang pinag-aawayan ay right-of-way (But in this case, he is a policeman. UST Santisimo Rosario Parish launches prayer brigade for mother, son shot dead by cop

Santisimo Rosario Parish urged the public to pray for the souls of Sonia and Frank.
The parish also joined the call for justice for the fatalities identified as Sonia Gregorio, 52, and her 25-year old son, Frank Anthony Gregorio.
On Sunday, Police Senior Master Sgt. Jonel Nuezca turned himself in after he was accused of shooting his neighbors. The two victims died on the spot due to bullet wounds in the head.
Both are residents of Purok 2, in Barangay Cabayaoasan in Paniqui town.
According to multiple reports, the shooting was sparked by a confrontation over the firing of “boga,” an improvised cannon made of PVC pipe that produces noise resembling a shot. ....

Various youth groups and individuals addressed the death of a mother and her son in Tarlac with a unity statement against police brutality and a call for justice.
The suspect, Police Senior Master Sgt. Joel Nuezca, shot dead Sonya Gregorio, 52, and her son Frank Anthony, 25, in Paniqui, Tarlac last Sunday.
A mobile phone video that went viral showed the policeman shot the Gregorios at point blank range in front of his young daughter.
“We cry for justice for Sonya, Frank and the thousands of victims of police brutality and senseless killings,” read the statement.
“We call on the government to immediately fire and probe Nuezca. Nuezca should be imprisoned for murdering two unarmed civilians,” it said. ....
