Mary Ellen Gambon For the past nine years, former Stoughton Select Board Chair Board member Bob O’Regan has tried to place together a jigsaw puzzle of complex pieces for residents and commercial development. In a recent interview with the Journal & Sun, O’Regan, who decided not to run for reelection in the recent Town Election, said he originally was called to public service out of family responsibility. When O’Regan’s son was in the third grade, his best friend left the school system because the family felt the schools were declining. “I looked around and saw there was quite a bit of that going around,” O’Regan said. “When people leave, that’s when you have instability in the community. I’m of the view that the best thing we can do is have excellent schools. And we do that by fixing the downtown and improving the tax base to fund them.” ....

Carrara has served as the interim town clerk since 2019 and has worked in the clerk s office since 2009. Several Select Board members, including Bob O Regan and Christine Howe, gave Carrara credit for handling the election process during the coronavirus pandemic. Howe said mail-in voting is likely to be a part of Massachusetts elections going forward, so her experience and past success with that are critical. ....

STOUGHTON A pair of a special breed of pit bulls in Stoughton that attacked another dog on their property so viciously in October that it had to be put down was determined not to be a danger to residents by a unanimous decision at a Tuesday Stoughton Select Board meeting. However, that ruling was going to be contingent on them being housed in their kennel while on the premises. Select board member Bob O’Regan discovered that, when the structure had been built last year, the contractor never filed permits, making it illegal. This was after the determination was made that the canines would not be a threat after their owner made modifications to the fence and kennel to keep them secured within the property. ....
