Two familiar faces will serve on the Stoughton Select Board as former selectman Scott Carrara and current Chair Steve Cavey won seats in the Annual Town Election Tuesday, April 6.
Carrara topped the ticket with 814 votes, with Cavey tallying 729. Finance Committee member Dave Lurie followed with 626 and former state Senate candidate Jarred Rose had 552. There were 371 blank ballots cast.
In all, 7.5 percent of registered voters cast ballots.
Cavey returns for a third term
Although Cavey was grateful for the win, he lamented the low voter turnout.
“Eight percent of the registered voters of Stoughton turned out yesterday,” Cavey said. “That’s a really bad percentage, and it’s dangerous for the democracy of our town. People’s interests are not being recognized.”

The race featured the only contested seats in the 2021 election. Select Board Vice Chair Steve Cavey ran again, but former Select Board Chair Bob O Regan decided not to seek reelection. So Cavey and three challengers: David Lurie, Jarred Rose and Scott Carrara competed for two seats.
