Bonita Springs families hope to see no potential flooding

Bonita Springs families hope to see no potential flooding Published: July 2, 2021 11:26 PM EDT Recommended Families we spoke to were not worried about Hurricane Elsa Friday night. They are preparing. They hope, if Elsa brings rain to Southwest Florida, they don’t see flooding like what Hurricane Sally brought in 2020. Some people who live along the Imperial River in Bonita Springs are leaving for the holiday weekend and hoping the area doesn’t flood like it normally does. Others have already put their shutters up and are prepared for the worst just in case. Southwest Florida is no stranger to hurricanes. People living along the Imperial River remember Hurricane Irma in 2017.

Where to attend Memorial Day events in SWFL

Another objective of the Memorial Day observances is to “give some education to younger generations so they know what it’s all about, said Chief William Carl, president of the Collier County Veterans Council. There is a lot of blood, sweat and tears spent on behalf of all Americans, said Carl, a retired Coast Guard officer. Here are some of the Memorial Day events that will be held in Southwest Florida on May 31. NAPLES Annual Memorial Day commemoration: Begins at 10 a.m. May 31 at Hodges Funeral Home’s Naples Memorial Gardens, 525 111th Ave. N. A musical prelude begins at 9:30 a.m. The Pine Ridge Middle School Symphonic Band will perform, and the Pledge of Allegiance will be led by Boy Scouts as a way to involve the younger generation in a holiday devoted to honoring veterans.

Fireworks will fill Fourth of July skies in Bonita Springs

Fireworks will fill Fourth of July skies in Bonita Springs A fireworks and laser show will fill the Fourth of July skies over Bonita Springs after City Council voted to have “real fireworks” this year. City staff is working on the specifics, but Councilor Jesse Purdon wants the annual show back in Riverside Park in the downtown area. He submitted the idea to have a fireworks show to universal councilor praise. “We need to keep moving forward and get back to the way it was before, and the first step to that would be for us to approve, conceptually, the idea of going back to live fireworks,” Purdon said.
