Warm Springs health official named to M. 110 oversight, accountability council
SALEM, Ore. (KTVZ) The Oregon Health Authority has announced the appointment of 21 members to serve on a new Oversight and Accountability Council to oversee the implementation of Measure 110, the Drug Treatment and Recovery Act that went into effect Monday.
The appointees represent a wide variety of communities and perspectives, in keeping with OHA’s mission to expand health equity in Oregon, the agency said.
“Out of nearly 200 applicants, we found 21 highly qualified, experienced individuals who truly represent the diverse populations who will benefit the most from the passing of this Act,” said OHA Director Pat Allen. ....

New Oregon law that decriminalizes possession of common street drugs goes into effect


    PORTLAND, Oregon (KPTV) A new law that decriminalizes possession of small amounts of drugs goes into effect through Oregon on Monday.
Voters passed Measure 110 in the November election, and Oregon is the first state in the country to have a rollback like this.
Possession of common street drugs will go from a misdemeanor to a citation, and on that citation will be a number to call for recovery help.
Tera Hurst with the Oregon Health Justice Recovery Alliance talked about those resources.
“The options will be to pay a $100 fine or call a 24-hour, 7-days-a-week phone line and talk to a peer-support specialist and get a social-services needs screening done,” Hurst said ....

Oregonians voted and law enforcement is learning. State troopers are working to better understand how they ll do their enforcement piece of a measure passed overwhelmingly by voters in the November 2020 election.
Measure 110 goes into effect on Monday, February 1. 
Oregon became the first state to decriminalize hard drugs like heroin and methamphetamine when the measure passed by a large margin, with more than 1.3 million Oregonians voting in favor of the measure.
