New Delhi: The Grand Finale of 2nd part of the Smart India Hackathon-2019 (Hardware Edition) is being conducted from 8th to 12th July, 2019 at 18 nodal centres in 9 states, one Union Territory and one Capital Territory of India.
The first part of Smart India Hackathon 2019, (Software Edition) was conducted on 2nd – 3rd March 2019.
The Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon (SIH) -2019 (Hardware Edition) was inaugurated by the Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ in New Delhi today.
The Union HRD Minister and MoS HRD Sh. Sanjay Dhotre interacted with the students participating in the Grand Finale at various nodal centres through video conferencing from New Delhi.

A search committee has been constituted to select a suitable person for the position of Vice-Chancellor of the Technological University.
Lt Governor Kiran Bedi has appointed V. Ramgopal Rao, Director IIT Delhi as convenor of the committee. V. Jagadeesh Kumar, professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Madras and the Secretary to the Government (Higher and Technical Education) will be members of the committee, a release from her office said.
The search committee is expected to submit its recommendation to the government as soon as possible, the release said.
The Lt Governor is the Chancellor of the University. The Legislative Assembly had passed a legislation upgrading the Pondicherry Engineering College as a university.

Cases related to false claims of Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe status having been made to secure government jobs are very common, but the Madras High Court on Friday came across a peculiar case where a person belonging to a Scheduled Caste had allegedly claimed to be an Other Backward Class (OBC) candidate to secure the job of a lecturer.
Justice P.N. Prakash refused to quash a First Information Report (FIR) registered against the former lecturer G. Suresh Kumar by the Puducherry Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (V&AC) unit based on a complaint lodged by the Principal of Pondicherry Engineering College, an institution promoted and fully funded by the Government of Puducherry, in December 2017.
