Police say man found shot to death in car parked in Olneyville

PROVIDENCE One night after nine people were injured in a shootout among two rival gangs, violence continued Friday night when the police found a man shot to death in a parked vehicle off Pope Street in the Olneyville neighborhood.
At around 9 p.m., police were called to the scene, where they discovered the dead 25-year-old man, the city’s eighth homicide of the year, said Cmdr. Thomas A. Verdi, the deputy police chief.
Verdi said Saturday that the homicide did not appear connected to Thursday evening’s shootout outside a house on Carolina Avenue in what police have described as the largest single shooting incident in the city’s history. ....

PROVIDENCE Two groups of young men exchanged gunfire early Thursday evening in what authorities described as a mass shooting that injured as many as nine people in Washington Park.
On Friday morning, Public Safety Commissioner Steven Paré said that eight people were hit by gunfire, and a ninth person was injured but not hit by gunfire. He said two people were in critical condition, and a third was in serious condition.

PROVIDENCE Bristling with semi-automatic pistols, the four young men rode to the shooting in a four-door pickup truck, traveling along Tennessee Avenue on Thursday evening in a Dodge Ram with a Tennessee license plate.
In the Washington Park neighborhood, they turned onto Carolina Avenue and pulled up to a house where five or six people were either on the porch or nearby.
The visitors climbed out of the truck and opened fire, unleashing at least 40 rounds and drawing return fire from at least two people on the porch. ....
