It is claimed that the suspected MPs received K4 million from some a group of Asian business magnets to reject the fearless legal bulldozer, Chizuma to be gaffer of the country’s graft busting body for fear of being busted and prosecution for corruption. ....
The NGO Gender Coordination Network, on behalf of the Women Manifesto Movement, Women Lawyers Association, National Advocacy Platform, and Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC), has written the office of the Speaker of the National Assembly requesting access to information pertaining to the meeting between the Public Appointments Committee (PAC) and Ombudsman Martha Chizuma, as held yesterday. In a statement, the network says the request is in respect to sections 6 and 12 of the constitution of Malawi, as well as articles 5, 14 and 15 of the Access to Information Act. Among others, it says the consortiumâs affiliates want to be furnished with copies of the following:Â Minutes or detailed report of the meeting proceedings, guidelines or criteria of assessment for the interviews, textual or audio verbatim recording covering the actual interview process and individual score sheets(with justifications) that were utilized in tallying the final score. ....

Addressing Parliament, Chakwera said he was dismayed and disappointed by the committee s rejection of his nominee, Martha Chizuma, a day earlier. Not only does this decision deny Malawians the services of a strong warrior, but it also delays our plan to empower the ACB to recruit additional prosecutors and implement the National Anti-Corruption Strategy II of 2019-2024, he said. ....
Leader of the House Richard Chimwendo Banda has told the Public Appointments Committee (PAC) of Parliament to give a detailed report why they failed Ombudsman Martha Chizuma on her interviews as the Director General for Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). Yesterday, Ombudsman Chizuma appeared before Parliamentary Committee on Public appointments for her confirmation as the ACB head following President Lazarus Chakweraâs appointment. However, PAC rejected Chizuma, a development which was not welcomed by the members of the general public. Following the development, Chimwendo Banda, moved a motion this morning using section 81 of the Parliamentary Standing Orders in which he questioned PAC resolution that rejected Chizuma. ....
