HRDC In 'Bring Back Our Martha Chizuma' Demonstrations

The Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has threatened to hold demonstrations on May 18, 2021 over a decision by the Public Appointments Committee (PAC)to reject the appointment of Martha Chizuma as Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera appointed Ombudsman Martha Chizuma as ACB Director General to replace Reyneck Matemba whose term of office expired in December last year.
Chizuma’s appointment was subjected to approval of parliament and today she was invited for interview by PAC led by Joyce Chitsulo.
After the interview it transpired that Chizuma has failed and this surprised many Malawians who placed their hope on the lady. ....

Malawians have taken to social media expressing their dissatisfaction with the decision by Public Appointment Committee of Parliament to reject âlady of the peopleâ Martha Chizuma as Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
Ombudsman Chizuma, appeared before PAC of Parliament for interviews following her appointment by President Lazarus Chakwera as Director General of the graft busting body.
However, PAC had something in mind contrary to the expectations of the general public as she has been turned down.
The development has not been welcomed by the populace who are expressing disappointment and disapproval of PACâs decision and questioning the credibility and integrity of the Committee. ....

Chizuma rejected as ACB boss, PAC members divided

Information reaching faceofmalawi indicates that Ombudsman Martha Chizuma has failed the interview by Public Appointments Committee of Parliament.
President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera appointed Chizuma to the post of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General last week but the post was subjected to PAC of parliament approval.
This morning, Chizuma was summoned to appear before PAC of Parliament for interviews.
Members of the Tonse Alliance block in the Public Appointments Committee are briefing the media now.
They have said it is a very sad day for the Public Appointments Committee and that the Committee knows that Malawians will be disappointed with the results. ....

The decision of the Public Appointments Committee (PAC) to reject Ombudsman Martha Chizuma as the new Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) director has annoyed scores of Malawians with most ranting that the Committee’s pronouncement is a massive drawback in as far as fighting graft in the country is concerned.
Barely three hours after the verdict of Chizuma’s rejection was made known to the public, Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has announced that it will stage a march to parliament next week on May 18 to “bring back our Martha Chizuma.” ....

Malta regulator to cancel Magic Services’ licence for fee non-payment

The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) is set to cancel Magic Services Limited’s licence in the country after it failed to pay its annual licensing fee.
Magic Services has been operating the Bet8.eu and Bet8.gr websites under a B2C gaming service licence issued by the MGA.
However, the regulator said Magic Services breached Regulation 3 of the Gaming Licence Fees Regulations by failing to pay its annual licence fee for the period from 1 August 2020 to 31 July 2021.
According to the MGA, this licence fee amounted to €71,035.54 (£61,079.77/$86,211.50). ....
