Governor Gretchen Whitmer announces Three Rivers to be among communities to receive grant from the state for downtown development By: Benjamin Pilarski The other four communities were Blissfield, Owosso, Grayling, and Lansing. Each community will be receiving $20,000. Three Rivers improvements will be upgrades to murals and art inspired banners, bistro seating, lighting, and outdoor games such as chess and ping pong tables. Governor Gretchen Whitmer commented on the grants stating “Thriving, attractive downtowns are vital to creating unique places where people want to live, work, visit and play,”. Governor Whitmer added “With today’s grants, these communities are taking important steps toward strengthening their core commercial districts and driving economic growth in the community”. ....

By Bob Wessel A trip from Petersburg to Blissfield is measured in minutes today. This was not the case when George Giles made the trip in 1826. Giles was obliged to cut a 13-mile-long road through the wilderness and wetlands along the River Raisin to reach his new home in Blissfield. Anyone looking across the lower eastern part of Lenawee County over the land between the River Raisin and the Ohio state line would never know that this flat picturesque area did not start out as the rich and productive farmland we see today. This land was once an untamed swamp, home to a wide range of wildlife and providing a fertile hunting ground for native Americans and newly arriving white settlers. ....
The Daily Telegram Lenawee Intermediate School District officials decided early last week to continue to require the use of face masks inside buildings and buses, even for people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Later in the week, state health officials recommended that schools continue to require face masks be worn inside schools. Other county school districts either made announcements that they would keep their mask requirements or made no announcement, leaving their current COVID-19 preparedness plans in place. Blissfield and the LISD are allowing students to remove their masks while outdoors if they can maintain 6 feet of distance from others. ....
