COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Three Jayhawks – Gleb Dudarev, Zach Bradford and Hussain Al-Hizam – earned bids to the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships at the NCAA West Preliminary in College Station, Texas on Wednesday.
In addition to the three Jayhawks punching their tickets to Eugene, Oregon, two Jayhawks, AJ Green III and Cody Johnson qualified for the quarterfinal round of their respective events, to be contested on Friday.
Kansas got the day started in the men’s hammer throw, where senior Gleb Dudarev marked the No. 1 throw out of the west region at 71.53m (234-8 ft.) on his third attempt, qualifying for his fourth-career NCAA Outdoor Championship.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas junior Alexandra Emilianov broke the KU school record in the shot put, while the Jayhawks placed sixth individuals on the podium and advanced five to finals on day two of the Big 12 Outdoor Championship in Manhattan, Kansas on Saturday.
Among the Jayhawks making the podium were Emilianov (shot put), Toni Englund (heptathlon), Patrick Larrison (shot put), George Evans (shot put), Samantha Van Hoecke (pole vault) and Riley Cooney (3,000 meter steeplechase).
Emilianov’s school record is the second in as many competitions for her in the shot put, after initially setting the school record of 16.87m (55-2.25 ft.) at the Rock Chalk Classic on May 1. On Saturday, Emilianov broke her record on two different throws, with her biggest throw of 17.25m (56-7.25 ft.), placing her third overall.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas men’s and women’s track and field teams combined for 203.5 points to place second as a team at the KU-KSU-WSU Triangular inside Ahearn Field House in Manhattan, Kansas on Saturday.
“I thought there were some people that did really well. I was really impressed to see the way AJ [Green III] competed and the way Honour [Finley] competed,” head coach Stanley Redwine said. “It was a great opportunity for the athletes to compete and I think we are going to be able to take away some positives from the meet.”
The KU-KSU-WSU Triangular marked the first meet of the indoor season for the Jayhawks, as they competed against in-state programs Kansas State and Wichita State. Saturday’s meet marked the seventh meet in the series history, with Kansas State gaining their fourth win in the series.
