Nutri-Score classifies food and beverages according to their nutritional profile using a scale of five colours and letters (A is green to represent the best nutritional quality while E is dark orange to show it’s the lowest). ....
Conagra benefits from sustained and elevated at-home demand in Q3 2021 Still benefiting from a sustained consumer shift to at-home eating over a year past the onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic, Conagra has registered a nearly 10% increase in organic net sales for Q3 2021 compared to the same period last year. The company experienced a 9.7% increase in organic net sales across its core retail segments refrigerated/frozen (12.1%), snacks (+13.1%), and staples (+15%) – driven by a 6.1% increase in volume and a favorable price/mix impact of 3.6%. Organic net sales were partly offset by a continued downturn to Conagra’s foodservice business, the company noted. ....
The John Lewis Partnership has appointed Hovis chief executive Nish Kankiwala to its board as non-executive director, effective this month. Kankiwala boasts 40 years’ experience within the food and drink industry and has held senior positions at PepsiCo, Unilever and global fast food chain Burger King. He continued his career within private equity led businesses and joined Hovis in 2014, initially as chairman and in the past five years as chief executive. Commenting on his appointment, Kankiwala said: “ The Partnership is a business I’ve long admired for its unique ethos and its special brands. The business now has a significant opportunity to play an even bigger role in its customers’ lives. I’m looking forward to working closely with the board and supporting the Partnership.” ....
How AI can cut food processing waste - Fraunhofer Institute A €10m project to slash food processing waste using artificial intelligence (AI) has been launched in Germany, focusing on meat, bakery and dairy production. A study conducted by the Thünen Institute in 2019 revealed that about 30% of food waste occur in food production and processing. The REIF project has 30 partners working on a long-term solution. The primary focus is designing an AI ecosystem, which includes participants at every step of the value chain. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) to the tune of €10m. ....
Subscribe Food allergies in children: More credible labelling policies as well as avoiding cross contamination crucial – HealthNuts study lead By Pearly Neo More effective policies to prevent allergen cross contamination are needed in Australia’s food industry, while voluntary labelling needs to more accurately reflect the risk profile, said a lead investigator of HealthNuts, the world’s largest comprehensive study on childhood food allergy. The HealthNuts study has been ongoing for some 15 years, comprising data from children across Australia, Singapore, South Africa, 10 countries in Europe, the United Kingdom and the United States. According to HealthNuts project lead and Co-Group Leader of the Population Allergy group Dr Jennifer Koplin, there needs to be an effective strategy to protect children both pre and post allergy. ....
