Staff report LIBERTY– Almost a dozen residents at Belmont Pines were sent to the Trumbull County juvenile detention center after a riot Sunday night. Liberty police sought help at 615 Churchill Hubbard Road from the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol and police from Vienna, Hubbard and Hubbard Township to quell the incident that broke out just before 10:30 p.m. Belmont Pines Hospital provides inpatient behavioral health services to young people 5 to 18 years old, its website states. At the time of the call, Belmont Pines staff reported 15 to 20 female residents rioting in the facility. Eleven juveniles were arrested and held while charges are determined, said Liberty police Chief Toby Meloro. ....

Apr 12, 2021 LIBERTY – Ten girls were taken to the Trumbull County Juvenile Justice Center late Sunday after several law enforcement agencies responded to what was called in one report “a riot” in the female section of Belmont Pines Hospital. According to a sheriff report, the call came about 10:30 p.m. with police units from Liberty, Hubbard City, Vienna and sheriff’s deputies responding to a situation involving about 20 females. According to the report, officers were able to detain some suspects involved but others were still causing a scene “and the situation was still very chaotic.” The officers were eventually able to control the residents. According to information gleaned at the scene, a few residents started a fight and then other juveniles jumped in, starting to damage facility doors in an apparent attempt to gain control of the building. ....
