LIBERTY– Almost a dozen residents at Belmont Pines were sent to the Trumbull County juvenile detention center after a riot Sunday night.
Liberty police sought help at 615 Churchill Hubbard Road from the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol and police from Vienna, Hubbard and Hubbard Township to quell the incident that broke out just before 10:30 p.m.
Belmont Pines Hospital provides inpatient behavioral health services to young people 5 to 18 years old, its website states.
At the time of the call, Belmont Pines staff reported 15 to 20 female residents rioting in the facility.
Eleven juveniles were arrested and held while charges are determined, said Liberty police Chief Toby Meloro.
GIRARD A Warren man is facing charges following a crash and a brief standoff.
Damien J. Binion, 23, Palmyra Road SW, was charged Monday in Girard Municipal Court with felony failure to comply, inducing panic and obstruction of official business, and on misdemeanor charges of aggravated menacing and criminal mischief, according to court records. A warrant was issued for his arrest. He is being treated in a hospital following a vehicle crash.
The incident began as a domestic “situation” in Girard, but Liberty police became involved Sunday morning when the man crashed on Pleasant Valley Road in Liberty, said Liberty police Chief Toby Meloro. Following a brief standoff on Anderson Morris Road, the man was taken into custody and transported to the hospital, Meloro said.
