Italfarmaco Announces Topline Data from Phase 2 Trial with Givinostat in Patients with Becker Muscular Dystrophy

Italfarmaco Group announced today topline data from its proof-of-concept Phase 2 trial with Givinostat, the company’s proprietary histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor, in 51 adult males with Becker Muscular Dystrophy (BMD). The study was designed to evaluate the effect of Givinostat in BMD, building on the experience developed in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Based on this experience, change in total fibrosis in the muscle biopsy was selected as the primary endpoint of the study and change in fat fraction and contractile CSA using quantitative Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) as key secondary endpoints. Givinostat did not show significant difference in the primary endpoint compared to placebo. However, significant difference from placebo in MRI of muscles in the whole thigh as well as quadriceps confirmed the ability of Givinostat to counteract muscle deterioration in the treated BMD patients. Marion Family Resource Center focuses on treatment of troubled youth

For Marion Family Court Judge Robert Fragale, the cycle of incarcerated youth becoming incarcerated adults was growing too quickly.
Through his years as a judge, he saw young teens sent away to juvenile detention only to wind up back in a courtroom years later being convicted as an adult. He said it was a vicious cycle; as more young adults were sent to juvenile detention, they d make more friends with other troubled kids which led to more crime and more arrests.
Fragale wanted to see a change in this. He, along with former Family Court Judge Deborah Alspach and current Family Court Judge Larry Heiser, devised a plan to help kids out and create a path out of a life of crime. Through collaborations with the Family Court, local donors and local schools, the Marion Family Resource Center was born and opened this year. ....
