New Plan for Shreveport's Arthur Circle School


Last summer, the
Caddo School Boardvoted to close Arthur Circle and send those students to the Broadmoor STEM Academy, a Pre-K through 8th grade school.
Board member Christine Tharpeis proposing using the facility as a youth center to offer services to children who are at risk. Tharpe says this proposal is in the early stages and she has just presented the plan to a committee of the
Caddo School Board. This complex would remain under the umbrella of the school board but it would be managed by the
Tharpe says she recently visited truancy court and she was shocked at the truancy numbers which have skyrocketed in Caddo over the past year.  She has continued to research the problem and found several areas where we can offer services to help these young people. The youth center at Arthur Circle would provide services to ensure the necessary tools are made available, in order to succeed in every aspect of life. This would be a One Stop Shop to let ....

Johnson, Balcken fill leadership roles at Children & Family Resource Center in Hendersonville

Children & Family Resource Center has announced that Joel Johnson and Emily Balcken have accepted key leadership roles at the center.
Johnson holds a master’s degree in mathematics education from Western Carolina University and a Post-Baccalaureate Certification in Financial Accounting from the University of North Carolina at Asheville.
Most recently, Johnson worked for Lake Logan Conference Center as the business manager and prior to that served as director of finance for Advantage Home and Community Care for over 15 years.
Johnson will oversee all aspects of the Children and Family Resource Center’s financial management and administrative systems and will ensure they are in line with strategic goals. ....

COVID-19 Crisis Response Fund announces 15th, 16th round of allocations

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The COVID-19 Crisis Response Fund of the Greater Evansville Region has awarded two new rounds off allocations.
The 15th round granted $282,000 to 12 nonprofit agencies and the 16th round granted $347,000 to another 12 organizations.
Officials say a total of 28 organizations applied for these two rounds.
Grants for these two rounds will go toward funding mental health and suicide prevention training, after-school programming, financial literacy classes and transportation services for vulnerable populations.
Money will also go toward underwriting building upgrades, the Delaware courtyard project and upgrades to the Bike Share program. ....

WHMI 93.5 Local News : LACASA Opens Registration For Parenting Class

Registration is now open for an online parenting class being held by LACASA.
LACASA Center’s Nurturing Parenting Program is designed specifically for parents of young children, from newborn to 11 years of age. It focuses on teaching parents about empathy, setting appropriate expectations, and practicing positive discipline. Participants will also learn about power and independence, along with parent and child roles.
The Nurturing Parenting Program is an award-winning, nationally recognized program that traditionally is held in person. Due to social distancing regulations and pandemic restrictions, this summer’s course will be completely virtual.
The program will be held over eight Tuesdays from June 1st through July 20th, meeting each time from 6pm until 7:30pm on Zoom. The cost to participate is $100 for one parent or $125 for two. All class materials are included and scholarships are available. Advance registration for ....
