Let s get this out of the way right up front: The Allman Betts Band is not the Allman Brothers Band, doesn t pretend to be and doesn t particularly want to be.
I’m proud to be part of a great musical legacy and we re all family and we’re proud of where we come from, guitarist/singer Duane Betts said in a phone interview. I just do what I do and I don’t care about what anyone thinks of me.
Betts is the son of Allman Brothers Band founder Dickey Betts, and his bandmates include Devon Allman (son of Gregg Allman) and Berry Duane Oakley (son of Berry Oakley), so the comparisons are inevitable. The three have known each other their whole lives but didn t get together in the same band until 2018, recruiting players from other bands they d been in to fill out the lineup. ....

If you live in this area, you probably know a little about the history of Fort Mose. In short, it’s known as the first Black settlement in America, founded in 1726 by freed or escaped slaves and their families, and attacked and destroyed by the English in 1740.
The Militia Muster at Fort Mose brings back the weapons drills and activities of the 18th century. It takes place at Fort Mose Historic State Park on the first Saturday of each month. And it’s free.

It is indeed a very strange and (here comes that word again) “unprecedented” time for live music. Bands, audiences, venues, and promoters are all still trying to figure out when the gears for the industry will start moving again, and how shows and tours will even
look while the pandemic is still with us or in its own end times.
Contemporary southern rockers the Allman Betts Band are placing their bets on getting back out on the road sooner than later, with an ambitious tour schedule starting this week.

Their website lists 60+ dates of festivals, support slots, and headlining shows stretching through October (this includes a summer “Spirit of the South” tour that pairs them with like-minded musicians and friends Blackberry Smoke). The third date will bring them to the Houston area at the Dosey Doe on February 2. ....
