Community rallies around 'Bomber' and Daisy - The Clare Champion

A CLARE community have rallied together to raise funds for a former county councillor whose family home went up in flames last Christmas. The Clarecastle home of former Fianna Fáil representative Bernard ‘Bomber’ Hanrahan was destroyed on the night of December 27. Fortunately Bernard managed to escape the blaze when he was alerted to the danger by his dog Daisy.
However the fire destroyed the house in Barntick which has been in the Hanrahan family for generations. Now in an effort to help rebuild the family home a fundraising appeal has been launched. The United for The Bomber and Daisy campaign is aiming to raise €30,000, with close to €5,000 of that target raised just one day after the GoFundMe page went live. ....

On Sunday 27th December, disaster struck for a former councillor as his home went up in smoke.
Bomber (Bernard Hanrahan) was alerted by his dog Daisy to the blaze and managed to escape before the flames reached his bedroom.
However, pictures and memories spanning three generations were lost in the fire.

The community near Bomber’s home in Barntick have come together to create a GoFundMe pages titled ‘United for Bomber and Daisy’ to help the community activist and his loyal companion rebuild their home.

A FORMER member of Clare County Council says he is lucky to have escaped with his life, after a fire destroyed his family home in Clarecastle.
Bernard Hanrahan, an active member of the community and former Fianna Fáil representative on the local authority, awoke in the early hours of last Sunday morning to find his home in flames. He told
The Champion that if it wasn’t for the fact his dog alerted him to the danger, he might not have escaped the blaze.
Bernard, who lives alone in the home where he was born and raised, credits his faithful bison frise with saving him. “It was around 5am when I heard Daisy barking,” he said. “She wouldn’t normally be looking to get out until around 7.30am.
