Brandywine graduates share stories of perseverance, opportunity at commencement

Victor Ficarra, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business, was the student speaker at the morning ceremony. He was president of the Lion Ambassadors, captain of the tennis team and a member of the basketball team, a peer tutor and a Schreyer Honors scholar. He plans to attend law school this fall.
Ficarra told of realizing that he chose his first major for the wrong reasons and embracing change as an opportunity, rather than a sign of failure.
“It is at the moments of change in our lives where we are quite literally picking a new direction for ourselves, and we must be willing to pick these directions and run with them,” he said. “Along the way, we must also be capable of seeing new opportunities as they present themselves. Making changes and taking on new opportunities can be absolutely terrifying but that feeling of gratification and fulfillment when it all works out ....

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. Log on to any app store, and parents will find hundreds of options for children that claim to be educational. But new research suggests these apps might not be as beneficial to children as they seem.
A new study analyzed some of the most downloaded educational apps for kids using a set of four criteria designed to evaluate whether an app provides a high-quality educational experience for children. The researchers found that most of the apps scored low, with free apps scoring even lower than their paid counterparts on some criteria.

Pat Gallagher, a Delaware County native and 2020 Penn State Brandywine graduate, is the man behind the viral play. He sat down with Onward State this week to break down his spectacular snag.
Gallagher first noted that he and his girlfriend, Alli, went to Citizens Bank Park on a whim Sunday night.
“The game started at 7 p.m., and I actually had a friend put on their Instagram story, ‘Does anyone want tickets? Something came up, ” Gallagher said. “I saw that and messaged him like a minute later…I went to pick up my girlfriend, and we got down there at around 7:25 p.m. I think it was around the third inning.” ....
