School of Engineering Chair Danny Claiborne said he finds and allocates funds for all senior design projects. With other faculty members, Claiborne also approves funds for projects based on seniors’ proposals. “The School of Engineering has been successful in building several types of vehicles in the past,” Claiborne said. “The Engineering Physics students have participated in a gas-operated Baja buggy for many years. The Electromechanical Engineering Technology students have participated in a hydraulic bicycle competition and have won that competition at the national level two times. Puckett said he got involved in SGA somewhat late in his college career. His path to joining SGA included joining the summer orientation team as a freshman, and becoming a lead counselor as a sophomore, becoming interfraternity council president, and eventually becoming government relations chair in SGA. Puckett later became chief of staff and the idea of running for president entered his mind. ....
Nursing department helps run CFSB Center as regional vaccination site Posted By: News Editor March 4, 2021 Ben Overby [email protected] Faculty and students in Murray State’s nursing program have been on the frontlines of the regional COVID-19 vaccination efforts at the CFSB Center. Nursing students and faculty assisted in treating and monitoring patients during the three regional vaccination days that have taken place on campus. Dina Byers, dean of the School of Nursing and Health Professions assisted the Calloway County Health Department and the Murray-Calloway County Hospital in the planning and implementation of the regional vaccination site. Murray State switches from Google Hangouts to Google Chat Ben Overby Murray State transitioned from using Google Hangouts to Google Chat on Monday, Feb. 8. According to a FAQ put out by Murray State, Google has been gradually migrating users from Hangouts to Chat. New features in Chat include creating rooms and editing text in a conversation after it’s been sent according to a user support page from Google. Chat will also feature an improved search function for past conversations according to the FAQ. To access chats from a computer, users may need to update their browser. A Chat area will appear on the left-side menu when using Racermail according to the FAQ. ....
Students give grant to Murray Art Guild Posted By: News Editor February 4, 2021 Ben Overby [email protected] The Murray State nonprofit leadership studies program presented the 2020 Giving Back Endowment Grant Award to the Murray Art Guild Community Art Center. According to a press release sent by the University, the Murray Art Guild received the $3,000 grant for its success in youth development over a long period of time in the Murray community. The award was presented on Nov. 10 by nonprofit leadership studies students. Debi Henry Danielson, executive director of the Murray Art Guild, said the grant money will directly support their youth development programming. ....
