To say life has become a twisted roller coaster would be an understatement and everyone has endured stress as a result. Racers Empower has offered a way for students to ease their stress through reading. The organization will hold a book discussion over the critically acclaimed novel The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy. ....
SGA president plans for mental health, diversity initiatives Posted By: News Editor April 7, 2021 Ben Overby [email protected] Junior Ian Puckett sat down with the Murray State News to discuss his ambitions as Student Government Association President. Puckett said he got involved in SGA somewhat late in his college career. His path to joining SGA included joining the summer orientation team as a freshman, and becoming a lead counselor as a sophomore, becoming interfraternity council president, and eventually becoming government relations chair in SGA. Puckett later became chief of staff and the idea of running for president entered his mind. ....
Posted By: News Editor March 11, 2021 Cady Stribling [email protected] After a record amount of applicants, the Student Government Association announced the new executive council for the 2021-22 academic year on Wednesday, March 10. Ian Puckett, a junior from Mayfield, Kentucky, was elected president with 226 votes. Puckett was a former senator at-large and ran for president uncontested. He will be the next student regent on the Board of Regents. “I am very excited to have the chance to serve all of our students at Murray State,” Puckett said. “I have served in several capacities in my time at MSU. I was a Summer O Counselor my freshman and sophomore years, IFC President as a sophomore and I have been in SGA since January of 2020. Dedicating myself to serving others has always been my mentality and that will not change while I am President. I can’t wait to work with everyone!” ....
Murray State receives mental health grant Levi Brandenburg [email protected] Murray State received $70,000 of funding from the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief fund (GEER) that will go towards mental health services on campus. Angie Trzepacz, director of counseling services, said the funds will be distributed to all the Kentucky public universities by the Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE). Murray State will allocate the funding for three areas. First, the state paid for mental health first aid training for faculty and staff who are interested. Second, the funding will contribute to accessing Therapy Assistance Online (TAO) for all students, faculty and staff for the next 16 months. The remaining funding will go to mental health services. ....
