How if one form diminishes in your life it spills out in another place, sometimes unexpectedly. Because, inevitably if you are a creative person it’s indelibly stitched into the fabric of your life. It’s a special thing to see artists who have taken threads from their creative paths and knotted them together. In The New Sun at Jhana Millers Gallery, Caroline McQuarrie has used photography, writing and textiles to portray an inquiry into her ancestors, particularly the female Pākehā settlers that came with their miner partners in the 1800s’ gold rush. ....

Image courtesy of the artists Massey University alumnae Bena Jackson and Teresa Collins are launching their new exhibition titled Bound in secret knots next week at Enjoy art gallery in Wellington. The new exhibition by Pōneke Wellington-based artists opens February 19 and runs until April 3. Including new sculptural and moving image works, Ms Jackson and Ms Collins have set themselves the challenge to produce an exhibition from discarded goods. The end result follows months of gathering materials from requesting scraps from local businesses and collecting discarded items from pavements, to making use of online forums, and a public call for unwanted items held at Enjoy in July 2020. ....
