If you know someone with hearing disabilities or someone who is having a hard time finding transportation to get the COVID-19 vaccine, there may be a solution. Jackson Area Center for Independent Living is taking part in the effort to help the community get vaccinated. “We’ve been really working towards helping all of our consumers who have disabilities get vaccinated because it’s so vitally important, and this was one of the areas we felt like we could provide this and encourage our consumers to come,” said Beth James, Director of the Jackson Area Center for Independent Living. ....

Gallia Local hires new superintendent Staff Report PATRIOT The Gallia County Local Board of Education met last week and approved the hiring of a new superintendent. The board unanimously approved a resolution to employ Phillip Kuhn as superintendent beginning Aug. 1 through July 31, 2024. The board also hired Kuhn on an as-needed basis as a consultant to aid in the transition, effective March 30 through July 31. Also during the meeting, the board approved to hire Penny Lope Coon as an administrative assistant for the central office, effective March 30 on a one-year limited contract. The board accepted the bid of $133,365 and entered an agreement with Hood Inc. for the bus garage bay addition. ....
Gallia Local Schools BOE approves agenda items PATRIOT The Gallia County Local Board of Education met last month for a regular business meeting. During the meeting, all board members were present, including Jeff Halley, Terry Halley, Beth James, Brent Schultz and Brandon Twyman. The board approved the treasurer Lily Blevins’ items, which included January’s financial report, paid bills and donations. From the superintendent’s recommendations, the board approved Inter-agency Agreement for 2020-2021 for Program Coordination for Transition and Services for Part C and Part B. In personnel matters, the board approved hiring Samantha Martin as the Academic Festival Advisor at South Gallia Middle School on a supplemental contract through June 30, 2021. ....
Perkins School collects items for HSWC Wayne Post As part of their annual 100th Day of the School Year celebration, students and staff at Newark’s Perkins School donated 227 items to the Humane Society of Wayne County. Mark Plyter, HSWC executive director, came to the school to collect the items, which included cleaning supplies, cat litter, dog and cat treats, dog and cat food, paper towels and puppy pads. Principal Rhonda Underhill said after the school reached its goal of 100 items for the two-week drive, drive organizers “rallied the troops” in daily announcements to keep the donations coming. The school more than doubled its goal by week’s end. ....
