Dealing with Doubt: Vaccination rates lower in rural Missouri communities

BOONE COUNTY- Vaccination rates are varying widely across Missouri, and the data shows it. According to the state s vaccine dashboard, there s a 33% gap between the Missouri county with the highest vaccination rate, Boone County, and the one with the lowest, Pulaski County.
Boone County Commissioner Daniel Atwill acknowledged at the county s May 3 public health briefing that rural communities are falling behind.
I don’t think there’s any doubt. that there’s a slower acceptance of the concept of vaccination in the out-county areas, Atwill said.
According to the Kaiser Family Foundation COVID-19 Vaccine Monitor, fewer rural residents compared to urban and suburban across America say they are planning or considering getting vaccinated. ....

Maneater | Amidst pandemic, Columbia shelters adapt to extreme weather conditions

By EJ Haas
Extreme cold conditions between Feb. 14 and Feb. 22 caused MU to cease on-campus operations for a day. ABC 17 News issued a Weather Alert on Feb. 16, claiming “conditions will struggle to improve and temperatures will be dangerously cold.”
As inconvenient as the weather may have been for students, it posed a serious danger to homeless individuals. According to a news release from the nonprofit Mid-Missouri Fellowship of Reconciliation, some contracted frostbite or hypothermia forcing them to seek medical attention.
At these temperatures, frostbite could occur in as little as 30 minutes.
Resources like warming centers and shelters remained open to the extent they could, but the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic hindered their ability to accommodate people in need of residence. ....

Day Trippin’: Columbia s True/False Film Fest is heading outdoors May 5-9
Press Release
True/False
One of the world s coolest film festivals, Columbia s True/False Film Fest, is heading outdoors for 2021. This year s True/False Film Fest will take place May 5-9, 2021 at the picturesque Stephens Lake Park, just a mile and a half from downtown Columbia.
In a normal year, the highly-acclaimed non-fiction film festival would take place throughout downtown Columbia the first weekend of March. But, these have been anything but normal times and, as such, True/False has the distinction of being the last major film festival to take place in 2020 and one of the first to take place in 2021. To make that happen festival organizers had to get creative to ensure a 2021 installment could be possible. ....
