It took two weather delays and a neutral site game, but the Middle Creek Mustangs earned a win over the Holly Springs Golden Hawks on Thursday night to lock up second place in the SWAC. Senior catcher Jonah Oster s crushed two-run home run to left field in the bottom of the sixth inning lifted the Mustangs to a 5-3 win and a secured spot in the 4A state playoffs. Holly Springs broke through in the top of the first inning with an RBI hit from Brock Wills that made it 1-0 early. ....

Without its star running back, Holly Springs offense found a spark in the second half and broke a 7-7 halftime tie with Fuquay-Varina to claim a key South Wake Athletic Conference win. Holly Springs scored three touchdowns in the second half en route to a 28-13 win over the Bengals. The Golden Hawks played the second half without running back Derek Coombs, who was sidelined with an injury. With the two teams tied at 7-7 in the third quarter, Holly Springs quarterback Brock Wills found Tyler Griffin for the go-ahead touchdown.
