Ribbon-cutting held for Norwalk s new shelter for homeless mothers

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held today for a shelter for homeless mothers and expecting mothers.
After more than 20 years in East Norwalk, The Malta House is moving across town to make room for more families in need.
The Malta House in Norwalk is more than just a shelter, they provide comprehensive wrap-around support for homeless mothers.
The nonprofit
has been helping new moms and expecting moms for more than two decades.
After touring dozens of spots, Executive Director Carey Dougherty says Malta chose to move to the former convent on the campus of All Saints Catholic School in the city of Norwalk.

An airplane crash at Addison Airport that killed 10 people was caused by the pilot’s failure to control the twin-engine plane after one of the engines lost thrust, the National Transportation Safety Board has determined.
A Beechcraft Super King Air 350 bound for St. Petersburg, Fla., crashed into a hangar at 9:11 a.m. that day, just 17 seconds after lifting off. Eight passengers and two crew members were aboard.

Montalban is in need of a new heart. Diagnosed before birth with congenital heart disease, the family knew he would need a replacement. He spent a significant amount of time in the hospital immediately after birth, according to Sandi Duxbury, vice president of marketing and enrollment for the Catholic School Alliance. In his time of need, students at All Saints Catholic School helped contribute money and sent healing words to him and his family.
Students grades 5 through 8 at All Saints Catholic School united in bringing comfort and hope to Montalban. Patricia Ferreira, advisor to the All Saints Catholic School Chapter of National Junior Honor Society, gathered grades 7 and 8 together for a COVID-safe community service opportunity. Dozens of students from All Saints Catholic School took part in the National Day of Prayer service on the lawn at city hall in Alpena on Thursday.
ALPENA For about an hour, the front steps and lawn at city hall in Alpena was transformed into a makeshift church, as about 100 residents and religious leaders gathered together Thursday to celebrate the National Day of Prayer.
The theme of the event was “Lord, pour out your love, life, and liberty,” and featured prayers asking God to help bring people, the nation, and the world together.
