ST. JOSEPH, Mo. A Missouri police K9 was shot and killed by a fleeing suspect while officers were serving an arrest warrant on June 30, Law Officer reported. Now the man who was wanted for viciously beating his mother has been charged in the shooting death of the police service dog.
Members of the St. Joseph Police Department attempted to arrest Valdez McDonald on a felony charge related to domestic violence.
“Last night at approximately 10:30 p.m. members of the special response team along with other officers and our K9 Max responded to 5108 Barbra St. in reference to serving an arrest warrant on an armed and barricaded subject. During the course of trying to negotiate the subject out of the house, he fled armed,” St. Joseph Police Commander David Hart said on July 1. ....

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) A St. Joseph police officer pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge Monday and resigned from the police force after he struck a handcuffed suspect during an arrest, Buchanan County Prosecutor Ron Holliday said.
James Langston entered the plea to fourth-degree assault during at the Buchanan County Courthouse.
As part of the plea deal,. Langston agreed to resign from the police department immediately and turn in his peace officers license to the state within 10 days, Holliday said. Langston had been with the force for more than 20 years. ....

St. Joseph officer charged misdemeanor assault during arrest

No one was injured in the incident, authorities said.
Langston has been with the department for more than 20 years and has been the supervisor of the School Resource Officer program for more than four years. He has been suspended without pay.
Langston is facing up to one year in county jail, and/or a fine not to exceed $2,000.
Holliday noted that other officers reported the incident and his office was promptly made aware of the police investigation.
