St. Joseph officer pleads guilty to misdemeanor assault

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) A St. Joseph police officer pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge Monday and resigned from the police force after he struck a handcuffed suspect during an arrest, Buchanan County Prosecutor Ron Holliday said.
James Langston entered the plea to fourth-degree assault during at the Buchanan County Courthouse.
As part of the plea deal,. Langston agreed to resign from the police department immediately and turn in his peace officers license to the state within 10 days, Holliday said. Langston had been with the force for more than 20 years. ....

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) A third man has been sentenced for his role in a drive-by shooting that killed a 2-year-old St. Joseph girl.
Te’Avion Waunya Hawkins pleaded guilty Wednesday to second-degree murder in the Aug. 9 death of Raelynn Craig. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, The St. Joseph News-Press reported.
Hawkins was driving a vehicle when shots were fired at another vehicle, hitting Raelynn Craig who died from her injuries. Two adults in the car with the child were injured.
As part of the plea deal, Hawkins was given a shorter sentence because he helped identify his two co-conspirators. ....

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) Two Missouri police officers were reprimanded after handcuffing and ticketing a domestic violence victim in an incident that was captured on security video.
St. Joseph police Capt. Jeff Wilson told The St. Joseph News-Press that he couldn t provide details about the discipline.
“But,” he added, “corrective action was taken by the department concerning this incident.”
Miranda Hicks, who uploaded security video from the incident to social media, confirmed to the newspaper that she was the woman detained by police and initially given tickets for trespassing and destruction of property. The tickets were voided after she filed a complaint. ....
