Sam Boulmetis Sr., Hall of Fame New Jersey Rider, Dies at 94 He died Sunday at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, his family said. Boulmetis won 2,783 races and his mounts earned $15.4 million in purses. The earnings ranked in the top 10 all-time for riders when he retired in 1966. He started riding in Florida in 1948 and his first win came at Garden State Park in New Jersey. His Monmouth Park titles came in 1949, ‘53, ’55, and ’56. Tosmah was probably his best mount. The filly defeated top males in the 1964 Arlington Classic Stakes, when the race was a key event for 3-year-olds in North America. ....
Tonya York’s Indian Hills home is warm, welcoming, and full of mementos and artifacts from friends, family, and her travels. It’s full of cozy, carefully thought-out spaces but it wasn’t always that way. When she purchased the property, she knew she had to put some work into the place; and, she says, the home improvement process hasn’t stopped. Made of memories “This was a total fixer-upper,” York said. “I never could have afforded it otherwise.” When she purchased the house about 20 years ago, it hadn’t been touched in quite some time. It sat vacant for nearly a year before the previous owner’s children finally got around to selling it. ....

Hill, born on April 20, 1921 in Dalzell, South Carolina, was one of 14 children on the family s 50-acre farm where he learned the value of hard work while tending to the animals, chopping cotton, and gathering crops. There wasn t much to do but it was a nice life growing up on the farm, recounted Hill. Hill left school in the 10th grade to return to working on the farm so his oldest brother could graduate high school and go to college. I didn t think much of it, back then we had to pay to go to high school and college, we didn t have free high school and then you know I grew up on a farm with a big family and we didn t have enough money to send everyone to school at the same time, said Hill. ....
