Q. How would you describe the current state of affairs in Nepal politics?
Nepal is in the midst of a serious political crisis. There was danger of disruption to the hard-won constitution. Fortunately, the decision of the Supreme Court to restore parliament has averted the crisis for now. But the danger remains because PM K P Sharma Oli has refused to resign. Until an alternate government is formed, the crisis will continue. ....

The rival faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party has announced third phase of agitation against Prime minister KP Oli’s decision of dissolving the House.
In the latest blow to the unstable political scene in Nepal, Prime Minister KP Oli has been expelled from the ruling Nepal Communist Party with Election Commission refusing to recognise either faction of the party, one led by Oli and other by Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar. 
The crisis was kickstarted by Oli decision back in December 2020 to dissolve the House of Representatives, the lower house of the Nepali Parliament and touted the move as the only way to resolve the budding disputed and non-cooperation in the party that according to him led to a “state of inaction”.  ....

Prachanda faction expels PM Oli from Nepal Communist Party's general membership

The Nepal Communist Party, which has not split formally but has virtually fallen apart after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli unilaterally decided to dissolve the House of Representatives on December 20 without the party s consent.
The Prachanda faction of the Nepal Communist Party has taken a disciplinary action against Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli and removed him from the party s general membership.
A Standing Committee meeting of the faction held on Sunday decided to expel Oli from the party, its spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha told the media.
The dissident faction has alleged Oli breached the party discipline and is liable to expulsion from the party. It had earlier relieved him from the post of party Chairman. ....

Nepal PM Oli recommended house dissolution without mentioning constitutional clauses reveal leaked papers-ANI


Kathmandu [Nepal], January 16 (ANI): A paper leaked from the Nepal Supreme Court on Friday showed that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had not mentioned any constitutional clauses while recommending dissolution of the lower house to President Bidya Devi Bhandari.
The leaked paper was submitted to Supreme Court by Oli s Office, following judicial order in December, 2020, which shows that PM Oli didn t mention any constitutional and legal provisions while recommending House dissolution.
Eighth points of leaked paper stated that, There is necessity of two-third majority Government. According to basic essence and values of Nepal s Constitution and Parliamentary system and practice of our own and various countries with parliamentary system, it is to be recommended to President to dissolve House of Representatives of incumbent Federal Assembly and head for polls on April 30 for first phase and May 10 for second phase. ....
