Nepal’s army has told its retired medical staff to be ready to be recalled for duty to help manage the growing Covid-19 crisis in the country. 
Army Spokesperson Santosh Ballav Poudel told CNN that the decision was made at a meeting held by the Chief of Army Staff Purna Chandra Thapa on Wednesday. 
Nepal’s army has already been drafted to help build the necessary infrastructure for isolation facilities and coordinated the management of the remains of Covid-19 victims.  ....

Army directs retired military health workers to stand ready for recall to duty as COVID-19 cases rise rapidly

KATHMANDU, May 5 Nepal Army has asked all retired military health workers to stand ready for recall to duty.
A meeting chaired by Chief of Army Staff Purna Chandra Thapa made a decision to this effect. According to the Public Relations Directorate of Nepal Army, the retired military health workers have been asked to remain on standby for the recall to duty as and when asked.
Army Spokesperson Santosh Ballav Paudel said Nepal Army has been forecasting its additional role it may have to play and making necessary preparations for the implementation of various plans in view of the rising cases of COVID-19 infection in the country. The decision to ask all retired military health workers to stand ready for a recall to duty is a part of its preparations to tackle the pandemic. ....

Latest News Highlights: The government hopes to vaccinate 30 crore people by August in second phase.

India today expanded the nationwide vaccination against the coronavirus, opening registerations for people above 60 years and those aged 45 in the second phase of the inoculation drive which began on January 16.
Citizens will be able to register and book an appointment for vaccination, anytime and anywhere, using the Co-WIN 2.0 portal or through other IT applications such as Arogya Setu.
With 15,510 fresh cases, India s COVID-19 tally has climbed to 1,11,12,241, while the number of recoveries has surged to 1,07,86,457, the Union health ministry said on Monday.
The death count due to the viral disease has gone up to 1,57,157 in the country with 106 more fatalities reported in a 24-hour period, the ministry s data updated at 8 am showed. ....
