Published
The federal government has dismissed speculations that COVID-19 vaccines coming to Nigeria contained microchips and would alter human genes.
Faisal Shuaib, Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), spoke on Monday at the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 national briefing.
He assured the medication would not only protect people but trigger an immune response that would protect the body against the virus.
“There currently seems to be growing vaccine hesitancy and this is largely caused by misinformation leading to mistrust, doubts, suspicions and conspiracy theories,” he said.
Shuaib urged the public to disregard such representation from unverified sources and listen to the medical experts for confirmed information. ....

SocialMediaTrends: Sokoto group's ultimatum to Kukah, African Union's 'silence' amid Uganda chaos

Nigeria’s social media space on Wednesday joined the rest of Africa in engaging discussions around Uganda’s forthcoming presidential election.
The election is set to be between 38-year-old Popstar Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine and the long-time incumbent, Yoweri Museveni.

The ‘deafening silence’ of the African Union (AU) in the face of alleged ‘bullying’ by the pro-government armed forces against Bobi Wine has also become a source of concern for social media users as well. ....

Dissent and the Failing State Debate

ENGAGEMENTS BY Chidi Amuta
Nigeria enters the new year draped in curious contradiction. A protracted sixtieth anniversary celebration has recently been interrupted by an untidy debate about the nation’s very survival as a viable state. The question is simple: Is the Nigerian state failing?
Among most enlightened Nigerians, there is now an inconvenient consensus that the Nigerian state is in a free fall. Subscribers to the failing state submission concede that Nigeria may not have failed completely but that the state is in desperate disrepair. We are witnessing what we may call a ‘failed state debate’ which has now fanned out into two flanks. Majority of sensible citizens are warning that the general insecurity and severe widespread poverty in the nation indicate a free descent into a possible state failure. ....
