The days of lugging around bins brimming with paper files might soon be a thing of the past for the Blair County District Attorney’s Office, DA Pete Weeks said.
“When I became (the DA’s) first assistant in 2018, we had several hundred boxes of files in the office,” Weeks said. “We had them stored under people’s desks, lining the hallways and there was simply no more room to store them.”
A couple years ago, the office began an initiative to purchase a server, allowing the case files to be digitized and accessed by computer, Weeks said. While the system was well ahead of paper filings, he said it was far from optimized.

HOLLIDAYSBURG A two-day jury trial ended Thursday in the conviction of an Altoona man who assaulted a victim with a pool cue and fired a round close to the victim’s head in April 2020.
The Blair County District Attorney’s Office said that Alexander DeLuca, 30, was convicted of aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, concealing a weapon without a license and other related charges.
“The Commonwealth is pleased with the verdict of the jury given the hard work of both the Logan Township and Altoona police departments,” Blair County Assistant District Attorney Derek Elensky said in a release. “This case is another example of increasing violence that has been shown in Blair County and across the country involving drugs and the use of weapons to try to settle drug disputes. The Commonwealth will seek a significant sentence in this case, due to the violence caused by the defendant and the danger that he poses to society.”

Blair County District Attorney Pete Weeks announced his intent to officially run for District Attorney Tuesday.

He was officially sworn in last April to fulfill the remainder of Consiglio’s term.
Weeks’ office is working on community outreach within area schools.
Once things get back to normal, he wants specialized prosecutors and “front line law enforcement” to go into area schools and speak to students about drug abuse, human trafficking, social media pitfalls and other emerging dangers that target children.
