HOLLIDAYSBURG A Claysburg man will be on probation for 14 years in exchange for guilty pleas to criminal charges filed in August 2018 when he was accused of sexually assaulting an ex-girlfriend in Greenfield Township.
Kevin R. Weyandt, 48, recently entered guilty pleas in Blair County Court to charges of simple assault, strangulation, recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats, unlawful restraint and criminal trespassing, all graded as misdemeanors.
Felony charges of rape, burglary, kidnapping, strangulation and sexual assault were among the charges dismissed.
Based on the negotiated plea, Weyandt’s 14-year probationary period has started. It was imposed to follow county prison incarceration of five months and five days to a maximum of one year. Information rendered in Blair County Court indicated that Weyandt has completed his incarceration. ....

HOLLIDAYSBURG A Tyrone man who broke into his girlfriend’s Altoona apartment in November has been convicted of criminal trespassing, witness intimidation, harassment and disorderly conduct.
The Blair County Court jury that heard the domestic violence case against Devin M. Miller, 30, handed down those verdicts Tuesday, along with additional verdicts acquitting Miller of burglary and obstructing justice.
Sentencing is scheduled for June 21 by Judge Daniel J. Milliron.
Prosecutors said they were pleased with the jury’s verdicts and credited Altoona police for their use of body cameras providing video, with sound, shown during trial.
“This is a case where police body cameras allowed jurors to see how the victim reacted on the day of the incident, an essential element in this prosecution,” First Assistant District Attorney Nichole Smith said. ....

The days of lugging around bins brimming with paper files might soon be a thing of the past for the Blair County District Attorney’s Office, DA Pete Weeks said.
“When I became (the DA’s) first assistant in 2018, we had several hundred boxes of files in the office,” Weeks said. “We had them stored under people’s desks, lining the hallways and there was simply no more room to store them.”
A couple years ago, the office began an initiative to purchase a server, allowing the case files to be digitized and accessed by computer, Weeks said. While the system was well ahead of paper filings, he said it was far from optimized. ....

HOLLIDAYSBURG When 19-year-old Jahlil Curtis-Devine Williams of Altoona was charged with attempted homicide in 2019, he was described as someone who was trying to start a street gang.
On Wednesday in Blair County Court, the now 21-year-old Williams pledged to finish a sentence of three to seven years incarceration, then never be in trouble again.
“I didn’t understand how important life was until I was in jail,” Williams told President Judge Elizabeth Doyle.
While inside Blair County Prison for almost two years, Williams said he missed the birth of his brother’s and sister’s children. He also said he has done a lot of thinking and knows he caused stress for his mother. ....
