Walmart Inc.’s Flipkart is exploring going public in the US through a merger with a blank-check company as it seeks to quicken its listing process, according to people familiar with the matter. The Bengaluru-based online retailer has been weighing a US initial public offering and it’s now also looking at other options, the people said. Flipkart’s advisers have approached several SPACs, said one of the people, who asked not to be identified as the information is not public. Flipkart could seek a valuation of at least $35 billion in a blank-check transaction, the people said. Bijoya Roy, who has led Flipkart’s legal operations since January 2019 will transition to the role of vice president and head of legal at the company and will report into Panigrahi, CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy said in an email to employees on 17 December. “In this role, Saroj will be responsible for all legal matters in Flipkart with particular focus on board management, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance,” Krishnamurthy said in the email. ....
Flipkart has made key changes to its board as the Walmart, Inc-owned e-commerce giant readies for a proposed initial public offering (IPO) next year. The new directors to the board from next year are Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of HDFC Ltd Keki Mistry, two new directors from Walmart Global Chief Technology Officer and Chief Development Officer Suresh Kumar and Executive Vice-President (EVP) of International Strategy and Development for Walmart International Leigh Hopkins, along with Flipkart Group CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy.
