Paul Schwartz files for County Council District 4 race


Paul Schwartz, a Brookeville resident, has entered the race for County Council District 4.
Schwartz, a Democrat, was a columnist for the Sentinel newspapers and currently serves as a lobbyist in Annapolis, focusing on representing current and retired federal employees.
Schwartz is the third person to enter the race. Maricé Morales, a former state delegate, announced in early June that she was running for the seat, but has not formally filed to run.
Natali Fani-Gonzalez, the vice chair of the Montgomery County Planning Board, has filed to enter the race. District 4 includes Wheaton, Aspen Hill and Olney, among other areas.
Council Member Nancy Navarro, who has held the seat since 2009, can’t run for re-election because of term limits. ....

Blackstone Group and Starwood Capital Group are once again trying to woo Extended Stay America’s shareholders.
The two firms announced Tuesday that they would increase their offer to buy the hotel operator to $20.50 per share, Bloomberg News reported.
In March, they agreed to buy the company at $19.50 per share. But some of Extended Stay’s shareholders have voiced opposition to the deal, questioning the timing, how the sale proceeded one group, Tarsadia Capital, says the bidding process did not allow for higher offers and the price itself. ....
