COVID-19 home tests needed before all maternity appointments

Midwife with pregnant woman
SALISBURY NHS Foundation Trust is now recommending that all pregnant woman carry out a rapid home test for Covid-19 twice a week.
In line with Government guidance, the tests must be taken by the woman and their support partner, even if they are not experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms.
They say these tests should be taken for any appointment, for example with a midwife, at a consultant clinic appointment or for an ultrasound scan.
If you have not undertaken a Lateral Flow Test prior to attending you may be asked to undertake a test on arrival.
When you have completed and recorded your test you will be sent an email or text which you can use as proof of a negative test. ....

NHS Trust v S [2021] EWHC 594 (Fam)
Application by hospital trust for declaration that it is lawful and in the best interests of a nine month old baby to withdraw life-sustaining treatment including ventilation

Background
S suffered a severe lack of oxygen and blood supply to his vital organs around the time of his birth, and as a result sustained extensive brain injury (severe perinatal hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy). The medical evidence (which included an independent report by the Head of Neonatal Services at GOSH commissioned by the parents) was that S had suffered permanent and irreversible brain damage and that there was no prospect of any improvement in his condition. He was unlikely to be able to see or hear, to ever be able to react to anyone or anything, to feed without a naso-gastric tube or a tube passing through the stomac ....
