The bylaw’s underlying purpose is to reduce costs and speed up the approval process of accessory residential buildings.
The bylaw essentially gives residents more freedom to build structures such as storages and tool sheds, and came as a method to achieve red tape reduction, which the Government of Alberta has been pushing for.
Under the passed bylaw, accessory residential buildings up to 150 sq. ft. in size no longer need a development permit, which was increased from 100 sq. ft. ....

Town and Municipal District (M.D.) of Pincher Creek councils deliberated over the effectiveness of the joint funding process from the most recent round of applications during a virtual joint council meeting on January 14.
Both councils expressed satisfaction with the approval process, but councillors indicated that they wanted feedback from applicants about how they felt about the process.

Town coun. Scott Korbett opened with comments that he appreciated the process’s simplicity.
“I thought it was actually much better than last year. It was certainly a lot easier for me to do my evaluation, so I’m happy with that and I’d like to see it stand just the way it is for another cycle,” said Korbett. ....
