SPOKANE, Wash. Spokane Public Schools settled with the family of a student who was restrained by a school resource officer in January 2019.
The family of a Ferris High School student filed a lawsuit after school resource officer Shawn Audie kneeled on the neck of their son after he was involved in an argument over shoes. The incident sparked a protest at the high school days after the incident. Students believed what happened was racially motivated.   ....

SPOKANE, Wash. Restaurants aren t the only ones understaffed right now; the City of Spokane is also dealing with an increase in vacancies exacerbated by a variety of pandemic-related pressures.
There are roughly 183 open positions in the city government right now. Officials say that s only slightly higher than normal. But, with an increasing number of high-profile resignations in recent months and a red-hot job market, there s rising concern about burnout and the ability to fill those roles.

SPOKANE, Wash. As the death toll from the Pacific Northwest heat wave continues to climb in Spokane County, community members say there is a lack of accountability.
Three more probable cases were identified Thursday morning, onto the 17 announced Wednesday. The deaths were all announced in the last eight days. The deaths happened on or after July 1. Webley said for comparison, Spokane County reported 13 heat-related deaths in total between 2015 and 2020. These deaths are just a portion of the 78 people in Washington state who likely died because of the historic heat wave. ....

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. The number of heat-related deaths in Spokane County grew over the July 4th holiday amid a historic heat wave that slammed the Northwest, bringing record-breaking temperatures to Spokane and surrounding areas.
The medical examiner wrote on its website Tuesday afternoon that there are 15 deaths wherein circumstances suggest they may be heat-related, although autopsy results are not yet available to confirm. The medical examiner s office released this information after multiple media outlets requested information regarding deaths that may be heat-related. ....
