West Bengal Assembly polls: Trinamool Congress to release election manifesto today

West Bengal elections will be held in eight phases starting March 27. The Election Commission will announce the poll results on May 2.

Kolkata: The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) will not release its manifesto for the forthcoming West Bengal Assembly election 2021 on Sunday, according to sources.
The next date will be announced later.
The party was supposed to release its manifesto earlier but the programme was postponed after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee suffered injuries while campaigning at Birulia Bazar in Nandigram on March 10.
Meanwhile, the poll observers have submitted their report to the Election Commission regarding the incident in which the Bengal chief minister had received injuries. As per the report, the incident in Nandigram which caused injury to Mamata Banerjee was an accident and not a planned attack. ....

BJP leader Amit Malviya demanded an apology from West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and TMC after the Election Commission of India (ECI) ruled out her injury at Nandigram being the result of an attack. Noting that EC s ruling was embarrassing for outgoing CM Mamata Banerjee, BJP s IT cell head Amit Malviya claimed that the people of West Bengal were misled by false claims of an alleged attack. Further, the BJP leader said that Mamata Banerjee was called out for being economical with the truth  and remarked that the EC had no evidence to prove that Mamata was attacked at Nandigram.  ....

NEW DELHI: Special observers Ajay V Nayak and Vivek Dube have, in their joint report to the Election Commission on the recent incident in Nandigram that had left chief minister Mamata Banerjee injured, stated that there were no significant pointers to suggest any pre-meditated or planned attack on her convoy.
However, based on a joint report of the East Midnapore’s district magistrate and superintendent of police (SP) and available video footage of the incident, they concluded that there was a lack of coordination between security arrangements by the police headquarters and local SP due to frequent changes to the chief minister’s tour programme, no approval was taken from returning officer for the place where the incident happened and there was a blatant disregard of security protocols. ....
