Langford building new community hub to fight 'general decline' of Station Avenue area


 
VICTORIA
The City of Langford has begun construction on a new community hub and dog park in the city s Station Avenue area.
The municipality says it s heard concerns from the community about the appearance and general decline of the area between Peatt Road and Veteran s Memorial Parkway for years, and has decided to revitalize the neighbourhood with a new community space.
The property will be developed into a recreational hub that includes spaces for small businesses and artisans, food trucks, public art, and other projects that focus on arts and culture.
The city also plans to build a new dog park and improve parking in the area for nearby businesses. ....

The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the April 6 District of Sparwood council meeting.
DELEGATIONS
Audited Financial Statements
David Adams, of Adams Wooley Chartered Professional Accountants, provided council with an overview of the district’s financial position prior to their acceptance of the Financial Statements for the year ended December 31, 2020. The financial statements will be included in the 2020 Annual Report when it is published in June.
Sparwood Museum
Joanne Wilton, representing the Michel Natal Sparwood Heritage Society, made a request to council for financial assistance in the amount of $49,000 to enable the society to hire a full-time executive director. The society would like to be able to have the Sparwood Museum open on a year-round basis. The society’s request was referred to staff to report back to council at the April 20 regular meeting. ....
