Last Saturday, many of the region’s best young male and female soccer players put their skills on display, and looked to parlay their on-field talent into a college scholarship. A contingent from Grande Prairie Regional College conducted a 3-hour evaluation camp at the North Cariboo Soccer Club as part of their Western Canada recruitment tour that includes stops in Edmonton, Calgary, William’s Lake, Whitehorse and Yellowknife. Robin Watson, head coach for both the men’s and women’s Grande Prairie soccer teams, said he was impressed with the turnout, that included 27 young men and women from local high schools.

Roll-A-Dome s future solidified with three-year lease

It doesn’t look like much from the outside, and aside from a coat of paint the Roll-A-Dome resembles an aging warehouse that has seen better days. But it’s what goes on inside the building that counts. The new lease has prompted a collective sigh of relief from user groups who would have no other place to go if it closed permanently. “The Roll-A-Dome has been part of the PG community for generations and we want to keep it going as a community centre,” said Yu. “So many great memories and times for people have been spent in it. People really love the place. You can just tell how special this place is for a lot of different people and we’re hell bent on keeping it that way for everyone.”
