BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Salvage crews began a third cut into the cargo ship Golden Ray on Wednesday morning.
The bow and stern of the 656-foot car carrier that overturned leaving the Port of Brunswick in September 2019 have already been cut off, lifted and removed. The two sections of the ship will be transported by barge to Gibson, Louisiana, for dismantling and recycling.
An 80-pound anchor chain operated by a heavy lifting crane is tearing through the hull, cutting the ship into massive slices. The next section to go is Section 7, cutting right through the engine room. ....

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A married couple who’ve lived in St. Augustine their entire lives passed away from COVID-19 complications within five days of each other.
The children of Roger and Betty Colee said they wouldn’t have been happy living without one another.
“We expected they were going to get better and come home,” said Cheryl Reese, daughter. Never did we expect they would not come home. We didn’t feel like they were that sick when they went in, but that’s what COVID does.”
As cars go by on San Jose Road, The Colee’s, both 83, would sit in rocking chairs twice a day and wave outside the home they built in 1986. ....

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – People who fit the criteria to get one of the COVID-19 vaccines in St. Johns County lined up in their cars beginning at 4:30 a.m. Friday, hoping to get a shot before the Health Department office closed on New Year’s Day.
Health workers opened the line at 9 a.m. to vaccinate health care workers and those 65 years and older.
The day’s allocation of 340 shots was gone in 2½ hours. Another 383 vaccines were administered at the St. Johns County Fire-Rescue site. The health office was supposed to be open until 3 p.m. Friday, but deputies began turning people away around 11:30 a.m. ....
