The Recology Portal To Sign Up For Your ‘Mohammed Nuru Rebate’ Is Now Open
That $100 million in settlement dollars from allegedly mistaken over-charges is now going out to Recology customers over an online portal, though the company claims they’ll send you a check if you do nothing before July 30.
One of the bright sides of the Mohammed Nuru Public Works scandal and the resulting federal bribery charges against Recology officials was the early March news that SF Recology customers would be reimbursed for rate hikes that may have been inappropriately approved by Nuru. City Attorney Dennis Herrera’s $100 million settlement deal, which was approved by the Board of Supervisors in May, included a $7 million payment to the city, and set aside $94.5 million for anyone who’d been an SF Recology customer between July 1, 2017, and March 31, 2021. Payments to individual customers will reportedly average $190 apiece.

Longtime friends charged by feds with corruption
SAN FRANCISCO - Federal prosecutors in San Francisco announced Thursday they ve charged the former vice president and group manager of Recology the company contracted by the city to handle waste collection with bribery and money laundering.
John Francis Porter, 37, is the second Recology executive to be charged in the ever-widening city corruption case, as federal prosecutors also charged former Recology group and government community relations manager Paul Frederick Giusti with bribery and money laundering back in November.
Prosecutors allege Porter worked with Giusti to bribe former San Francisco Department of Public Works director Mohammed Nuru, whose responsibilities included regulating waste collection rates and approving contracts.

Dorothy was the loving wife of Curtis Baxter and together they shared a full life running the local typewriter repair shop in Paso Robles until retirement. Retirement was spent on Curt’s tinkering and Dot’s gardening with annual travel to the Hawaiian Islands.
Dot was a kind and loving neighbor to the neighborhood families. Throughout the decades she belonged to many local charities and professional women’s organizations. Dorothy was an annual participant in the Pioneer Day Parade riding in the Slate family’s 1923 refurbished Model T touring car.
