The Recology Portal To Sign Up For Your ‘Mohammed Nuru Rebate’ Is Now Open That $100 million in settlement dollars from allegedly mistaken over-charges is now going out to Recology customers over an online portal, though the company claims they’ll send you a check if you do nothing before July 30. One of the bright sides of the Mohammed Nuru Public Works scandal and the resulting federal bribery charges against Recology officials was the early March news that SF Recology customers would be reimbursed for rate hikes that may have been inappropriately approved by Nuru. City Attorney Dennis Herrera’s $100 million settlement deal, which was approved by the Board of Supervisors in May, included a $7 million payment to the city, and set aside $94.5 million for anyone who’d been an SF Recology customer between July 1, 2017, and March 31, 2021. Payments to individual customers will reportedly average $190 apiece. ....
Pennsylvania county awarded demo funds Schuylkill County awarded $2 million from state government to address nuisance properties. The government of Schuylkill County in eastern Pennsylvania says it has been awarded $2 million in state grants to go toward demolition projects in the county. The announcement was made by County Administrator Gary Bender in early March, according to an online report from Skook News. According to that online media outlet, Bender made the announcement in front of a former high school in the county that it describes as “falling into disrepair since the 1970s.” Additional elected and appointed officials took part in the announcement event, and they named several communities in the county that would likely benefit from the grants by being able to take down abandoned properties considered nuisances or eyesores. ....
EPA links PFAS contamination in New Hampshire to Coakley Landfill Superfund site The agency says it has found some level of PFAS in all of the two dozen wells that have been sampled near Greenland, New Hampshire. Federal officials say they have linked three contaminated water wells in Greenland, New Hampshire, to the Seacoast’s Coakley Landfill Superfund site. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says it now knows that the landfill has impacted three nearby homes with well water that are above state limits on two harmful chemicals PFOA, which is a common kind of PFAS, and 1,4 dioxane. The agency says it will continue testing area water supplies for chemicals indefinitely. The EPA has already found some levels of PFAS in all of the two dozen nearby wells they ve sampled. They say they still can t be sure it s all from Coakley, though neighbors remain skeptical. ....
Share it The San Francisco City Attorney s Office has reached a settlement with Recology, collectively valued at $107.6 million, stemming from inaccurate rate increases disclosed during an ongoing public corruption investigation as well as unfair competition practices. This news comes as competitors and critics have already been looking for ways to potentially chip away at the company s exclusive lock on the local market. The deal, announced Thursday, comes after Recology s former government and community relations manager for the area, Paul Giusti, was charged in federal court for allegedly trying to influence a former city official via bribes and other actions. That official helped approve a more than 14% rate increase for the company in 2017. According to the new settlement, Recology used inaccurate calculations to justify that increase and no corrective action was taken by either party once it was discovered. ....
