Cole won’t seek re-election, opening up a GOP stronghold seat in Fredericksburg Updated at March 1, 2021 - Uriah Kiser Delegate Mark Cole, R-Fredericksburg, Stafford Delegate Mark Cole will not seek re-election to the Virginia House of Delegates. The Republican represents the 88th House District, which includes parts of Fauquier, Stafford, and Spotsylvania counties, and Fredericksburg City. Cole thanked his supporters in a letter he penned on Friday, February 27, we wrote to announce his retirement. “For more than 20 years, I have been burning the candle at both ends, and it has taken a toll on me. Now is the time to hand the baton to someone else,” wrote Cole. ....
February 8, 2021 at 9:45am A new bill introduced by VA Del. Ken Plum of the 36th District would repeal mandatory jail sentences for second and subsequent misdemeanor larceny convictions. Under current Virginia law, anyone who is convicted of a second misdemeanor larceny conviction is subjected to a mandatory jail sentence of at least 30 days (but not more than 12 months). A third misdemeanor larceny conviction is a Class 6 felony, punishable with at least a year in jail. Misdemeanor, or petit larceny, is defined as theft of items under $1,000. The law was first passed more than 50 years ago. The bill passed the Virginia House of Delegates by a 52 to 45 vote with three delegates not voting. ....

[Uriah Kiser/PLN] A judge in Virginia ordered a permanent ban on accepting ballots without postmarks after Election Day. In a consent order dated January 13, 2021, signed by Judge William W. Eldridge IV, Presiding Judge of the Frederick County Circuit Court, the Virginia Board of Elections agreed to revise their regulations to bring them into compliance with Virginia law. The lawsuit was brought by Frederick County Electoral Board member Thomas Reed. According to a statement from the attorney in the case, “This consent decree gives Mr. Reed everything he requested – a permanent ban on accepting ballots without postmarks after Election Day, and is a loss for the Virginia bureaucrats who said ballots could come in without these protections.” ....
Stripped of committee assignment, Delegate Cole pushes for voter ID Cole Delegate Mark Cole (R-Spotsylvania, Stafford) was recently removed from the House Privileges and Elections Committee in Richmond after signing his name a letter that cast doubt on the results of the Presidential Election on November 3. In the letter, Cole and two other delegates Dave LaRock, (R-Loudoun) and Ronnie Campbell (R-Rockbridge) urged Vice President Micheal Pence not to certify the results of the election which the trio claim to be suspect. As a result, Cole and the other delegates were removed from one committee assignment each by House Speaker Eileen Filler-Corn (D-Fairfax). ....
