Ghaziabad: A teacher died, and his friend suffered injuries after a speeding pick-up vehicle hit their bike in Vijay Nagar area on Thursday evening. When locals gathered after the incident, they saw that the driver of the pick-up van was also unconscious and took him to the hospital. Doctors said Naveen, the driver of the pick-up vehicle, suffered a heart attack and lost control over the vehicle and that led to the accident. Naveen, a resident of Ghaziabad, was shifted to a higher facility in Delhi but he died while undergoing treatment on Friday morning. Police said the teacher, identified as Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Pratap Vihar was returning home with his friend Gaurav, who was riding pillion and suffered injuries. While Naveen died on Friday morning, Kumar was declared dead on arrival by the doctors at the Delhi hospital on Thursday night. ....
Ghaziabad: Flores Hospital in Ghaziabad has been imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh for violating bio-medical waste norms. Following a penalty on the Le Crest hospital, this hospital in Pratap Vihar has been issued a show-cause notice. Mithelesh Kumar, district health officer, said: “We found the violations in a surprise inspection on Monday evening. We also saw that the hospital has put up a ‘no vacancy’ signboard. When we checked the records, we found that 18 ICU/ventilator beds to be vacant. We have issued a show-cause notice to the hospital and the matter has been informed to the health department for necessary action, which might also result in cancellation of the hospital’s licence.” ....
Ghaziabad: A private Covid hospital in the city wrote to Meerut divisional commissioner late on Sunday evening claiming it had one hours’ oxygen supply left. Flores Hospital, Pratap Vihar, that has 100 beds, including 20 ICU beds, said it needed urgent supply for more than 80 patients. Officials at the hospital wrote to Meerut divisional commissioner at around 8.45 pm stating that the 230 oxygen cylinders meant for them were not reaching the facility on a daily basis. Additional district magistrate (city) Shailendra Kumar Singh said senior officials were immediately sent to the hospital for an inspection. “Meanwhile, about 18 cylinders were sent to the hospital and 40 more would be sent in a while,” he said late at night. ....

GHAZIABAD/NOIDA: From 10% on March 27, the occupancy rate in private hospitals of Ghaziabad has shot up to over 51% in just 15 days. The demand for ICU beds is higher. Currently, 61% of the 223 Covid ICU beds in the district are occupied. The figure was about 18% a fortnight ago. Neighbouring Gautam Budh Nagar has also seen a similar trend in the past 10 days. While most private hospitals had 50 to 70 Covid patients in the first week of April, the number is more than 100 now. Ghaziabad has 15 private Covid hospitals with a total of 1,075 beds, including 240 in ICU. A fortnight ago, there were eight private Covid hospitals with 793 beds, including 149 in ICU. On Sunday, 147 of the 240 ICU beds were occupied. On March 27, of the 149 ICU beds, 27 were occupied. In all 83 of the 793 non-ICU Covid beds were occupied on March 27.
